Amit Singhal, ex-Googlite, known as the master of â€˜Google ranking algorithmâ€™ will now be joining the board of Directors at Fitness Satrtup â€˜GOQiiâ€™. Amit left Google after his retirement in the month of February, after a graceful period of 15 years of his service.
Amit, 2014 has also invested in Vishal Gondal-founded firm too, as an angel investor.Â Amit in the Board shall wok on to bring his expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning to GOQii, making their service more predictive and preventive.
In his interview with Economic Times, Singhal said, “The idea that is most intriguing about GOQii is having a human being working with artificial intelligence to motivate the userâ€.
Amit was born in Jhansi, a city in the state ofÂ Uttar Pradesh,Â India. He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree inÂ computer science fromÂ IIT RoorkeeÂ in 1989.Â He continued his computer science education in theÂ United States, and received anÂ M.S.Â degree from University of Minnesota DuluthÂ in 1991.
Singhal continued his studies atÂ Cornell UniversityÂ inÂ Ithaca, New YorkÂ and received aÂ Ph.D.Â degree in 1996.Â At Cornell, Singhal studied withÂ Gerard Salton, a pioneer in the field ofÂ information retrieval, the academic discipline which forms the foundation of modern search. John Battelle, in his book “The Search” calls Gerard Salton “the father of digital search.” He got interested in the problem of search in 1990 at the University of Minnesota Duluth. After getting a Ph.D. in 1996, Singhal joinedÂ AT&T LabsÂ (previously a part of Bell Labs), where he continued his research in information retrieval, speech retrieval and other related fields.
GOQii offers a wearable fitness band which collects usersâ€™ activity and sleep data. A personal coach assigned to the user reviews this data and connects with the user via mobile app to guide them towards their health and fitness goals.Â The band itself is free, and users pay a subscription fee for personalized coaching. The device, which has an OLED display and â€˜hummâ€™ vibration module, tracks steps, distance, time, calories, active time, and sleep.
